Unai Emery has told Shkodran Mustafi what to expect after he chose to stay at Arsenal.
The Germany international has slipped down the pecking order after several high profile mistakes, with Emery open to letting him leave.
The player then came to the decision that he wanted to stay put, and his Spanish boss has now spoken out.
He said: ”Mustafi decided to be here and when he decided to be here, he’s like any other player.
“Of course I respect his decision.
“When he decided I spoke to him and said, ‘You’re one more in the squad, I’m going to work with you as other players’.
“I don’t know exactly who was in his decision [to stay], but when he decided to stay here, it’s another player in the squad.”
One player who did chose to leave the Gunners in August was Alex Iwobi, who is feeling happy about his move to Everton.
He told Soccer Saturday: “It’s so far, so good, I feel like I’ve got a new home and I’m really comfortable here.
“I got a few phone calls [about the deal] and spoke to my agent – it took about a day of talking to the manager and talking to Marcel Brands.
“It wasn’t really hard and I got convinced.
“I was very comfortable [at Arsenal] and I was on holiday so I didn’t think about any move.
“I got the call and thought about if this would be a better chance for me to improve myself as a player.
“I thought that this was a big opportunity and I shouldn’t turn it down.”
He added: “I’ve got no regrets about the decision.
“The ambition that Marco Silva has also persuaded me to come – the drive, what he wants to achieve and the way he saw me in his plans.”
