Cincinnati Masters: Nick Kyrgios ‘p***ed’ Frances Tiafoe off more than ever with one act | Tennis | Sport

Kyrgios is one of the more animated players on tour, regularly joking with players on social media.

At times, his attitude has been lambasted by players such as Rafael Nadal in the past with many suggesting he should focus more on realising his talents.

But the Australian has also proved to be one of the most popular players on tour, with both fans and players.

One player he has a close connection to is American Tiafoe as they share a strong mutual interest in following the NBA.

Kyrgios is often seen practicing in a Boston Celtics jersey and frequently speaks about the latest news in the sport.

Tiafoe also follows an Eastern Conference franchise, the Washington Wizards, and the two tennis stars often joke with each other about their respective favourite team.

But the 21-year-old has joked how his friendship with Kyrgios nearly came to an end after the Citi Open champion continued to bring up with Celtics beating the Wizards in the 2017 NBA Playoffs.

“That’s all we talk about,” he said.

“I don’t think we have talked tennis in the last three years.

“That’s pretty much all we talk about.

“He’s a big Boston Celtics fan.

“Couple years ago when the Celts got us [the Wizards] in seven, I mean, he didn’t shut up for, like — man, our relationship was almost done (smiling). Never been that p***** ever.

“Yeah, obviously he’s a huge fan. So am I. Hopefully we can keep that up.

“I think it’s good for tennis. I think it’s good for us.

“So many weeks on tour. Tennis, tennis, tennis.

“Kind of gets your mind out of something. Something that we’re actually truly passionate about.”
