Virgil van Dijk transfer plan
Jurgen Klopp should use Virgil van Dijk to help try and attract any stars of the Ajax team which looks set to be taken apart by clubs across Europe this summer, says Steve McMahon.
Matthijs de Ligt, Donny van de Beek, Andre Onana, David Neres, Hakim Ziyech and Kasper Dolberg are among those who could be subject to bids from teams in Europe’s five major leagues.
And Liverpool legend McMahon has implored his former club to be among them, having been linked with mountainous centre-back De Ligt, who is also reportedly of strong interest to Barcelona and Manchester City.
“Get Virgil van Dijk to speak to them individually, especially the Dutch players and hand pick them. That’s what I’d be doing,” said McMahon.
About Lorenzo Insigne…
Jurgen Klopp might feel like reviving his interest in Lorenzo Insigne after Aurelio De Laurentiis admitted he cannot force the Napoli star to stay put.
Liverpool were credited with serious interest in Insigne towards the end of last month by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
And the playmaker would represent a valuable asset if Klopp was to add him to his squad of two-time Champions League finalists.
“I understand that he has a contract, he is a Napoli player and he is from Naples,” De Laurentiis told Tutto Mercato Web, when asked if Insigne will be at Napoli next season.
“However, this responsibility [being captain] has played in the past, and could play him in the future, an idiosyncrasy with the fans that led to misunderstandings, I can’t force him to stay.”
Liverpool have inadvertently forced Real Madrid to change their plans to announce the signing of Eden Hazard from Chelsea, according to reports.
Los Blancos want the Belgium international to be their marquee signing of the summer and a direct replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who left for Juventus a year ago.
And L’Equipe say that Liverpool, inadvertently, have now forced Real to change their plans for an announcement.
It is said they initially wanted to unveil Hazard on June 2 – the day after the Champions League final.
And that was because they expected Barcelona to be involved.
The Catalan giants beat Liverpool 3-0 at the Nou Camp at the beginning of the month in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
