Man City news: Shaun Goater claims Premier League title race isn’t over if Liverpool win | Football | Sport

The Premier League title race won’t be over if Liverpool beat Manchester City on Sunday, according to City hero Shaun Goater.

There are still a number of teams in the league that can take points off both title contenders, he believes.

Goater thinks City still have a lot more to give this season, and they’ll push Liverpool all the way.

Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Anfield on Sunday (4.30pm) with the aim of closing the gap at the top of the table to just three points.

“Football is funny,” Goater told the Daily Mail. “It is about momentum, and right now Liverpool are in a great period.

“They are getting a bit of luck, and in some games they are scoring late and that is keeping the momentum.

“It is still very, very early in the season and the league is just as competitive.

“I saw Aston Villa play Man City and I thought they would win, but wow it was tight.

“That shows me there a number of teams that can play against Liverpool and Manchester City and get a result.

“If it was around February, then it would be completely different, but it is still early and Manchester City still have so much potential.”

The two teams played out a 0-0 draw at Anfield last season, as both teams appeared to cancel each other out.

Riyad Mahrez missed a last-minute penalty that would’ve given City their first win at Liverpool in 16 years.

But, Liverpool remain unbeaten this season in the Premier League, having only lost a competitive match to Napoli in the Champions League.

City, meanwhile, have already lost to both Norwich City and Wolves in the league.

A defeat for Guardiola could see his side slip to fourth in the Premier League table.

Leicester City and Chelsea can leapfrog Citizens if they win their matches before City travel to Merseyside.
