Man Utd players and staff mocked Fred during pre season – and were surprised by Solskjaer | Football | Sport

Manchester United players and staff reportedly mocked Fred after he requested time off to get married during the summer.

The Brazil international has endured a nightmare 18 months in England so far since touching down from Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee of £52million.

Back in the summer, the Manchester United star tied the knot with Monique Salum in his home country before then joining the rest of the Red Devils squad on their pre-season tour of Australia.

And The Times say that, because he requested time off from Solskjaer, he was mocked by players and staff alike.

The United manager had made it clear he wanted everybody to be available for the tour.

But he supposedly left people surprised by then allowing Fred the time off.

The player had previously expected to be included in Brazil’s squad for the Copa America.

But he was omitted from the squad by Samba manager Tite and was then forced into pleading with Solskjaer.

The United manager said yes because he expected the midfielder to hit the ground running this season.

But that hasn’t happened with Fred enduring a wretched campaign, toiling in the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle before the international break.

So dire have his performances been that he’s drawn comparisons with United flop Kleberson.

Sir Alex Ferguson signed the Brazil international in 2002, shortly after he’d helped his country win the World Cup.

But Kleberson lasted just two years at United and is regarded as one of Ferguson’s worst-ever signings.

And former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon has now slammed Fred, particularly for his passing decisions.

“The jury has delivered its verdict. If Fred is the answer to United’s problems then they are in big trouble,” he said.

“Every time after the ball goes to Fred it goes square, square , square.

“You would have thought with United getting more and more desperate during the game Fred might have actually passed the ball forward.

“He is clearly not the answer. You look at Manchester United ’s midfield as a whole and you wonder what the game plan is. What is the system? Does anybody know?

“Against Newcastle it just got worse and worse. It was the same with Fred. He doesn’t look a Manchester United player.

“There are not enough creative players in the side and that’s one of the reasons they are not getting the best out of Marcus Rashford.”
