Melania Trump, 49, has been the First Lady of the United States since her husband, Donald Trump, 72, became President in 2017. Formally a model, Melania’s wardrobe is full of luxurious designer pieces that she showcases every time she steps out. Her outfits are often packed with controversy, with the buzz often building around their hefty price tag.
According to reports in April, Melania spent an estimated £12,800 just on clothes.
While she wore some very expensive pieces, some of her garments could not be identified, meaning her total spend is likely to be much more.
It is clear, that with so much money spent, Donald Trump’s wife does not look at price tags.
However, a few months after marrying Mr Trump in 2005, Melania told CNN’s Larry King she was not a big spender.
When asked what it was like to have everything economically, Melania answered: “I grew up where you would always have take care of the money.
“Where you are not like a big spender and say ‘okay, I will buy it even if I don’t like it 100 percent.
“You really need to love it if you want to you buy it.”
Donald Trump, who sat alongside his new wife in the interview, interrupted Mr King to say: “She has never taken advantage of that situation, as many women would have frankly.
“She is not one that sees a beautiful something on Fifth Avenue or a Madison Avenue’s window and says ‘I am going to get it or please get it for me’.”
Melania added: “I make a lot of money myself, I know what it is to work and what money means.
“It is not like I will say ‘I want the latest bag and then in one month that bag will be in the closet.’
“I am not into that.”
Before Melania became First Lady, she did not just work as a model but also launched her own line of jewelry, Melania Timepieces and Jewelry, for sale on QVC.
She also marketed a Melania Skin Care Collection, sold in high-end department stores.
According to a financial filing in 2016, her businesses brought in between $15,000 (£11,000) and $50,000(£38,000) in royalties that year.
