Neymar and Kylian Mbappe sent PSG warning by Thomas Tuchel after Real Madrid rout | Football | Sport

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have been warned by PSG manager Thomas Tuchel that they must prove their worth to the first team when they return.

The pair, 27 and 20 respectively, missed the French champion’s 3-0 win over Real Madrid in their opening Champions League group game on Wednesday night.

Neymar was absent due to suspension, while Mbappe missed the visit of Los Blancos with a hamstring injury.

PSG coped just fine without their star strikers, with a brace from former Real winger Angel Di Maria and a stoppage-time strike from Thomas Meunier firing them to the top of Group A.

Tuchel was thrilled with his troops’ five-star performance and has urged Neymar and Mbappe to justify their places in the starting XI by hitting the ground running when they return to the fold.

“I’m very happy with the whole team because it was really difficult, we had a lot of chances, but there were also some stages for Real where we suffered,” Tuchel told RMC Sport.

“But we stayed structured, always blocked, tight, aggressive and compact, really, it was a complete performance.

“Mbappe and Neymar saw the match, and they have to do what the others did on their return.

“That’s good, we are happy to have such a team, which was not always the case. We can make a good team match without our stars, and it’s absolutely necessary.

“I have to make tough decisions, but it’s good, the competition must be like that in a club like PSG.”

PSG will be back in action on Sunday night (8pm), travelling to the Parc Olympique Lyonnais to face Lyon.

Real, meanwhile, will look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday night (8pm) when they take on Sevilla.
